Túrin started riding in 2001 when he purchased his first motorcycle, a new SV650S. Being in San Francisco at the time he was introduced to some of the best riding and seeing that it was the age of bulletin boards and email lists he joined the Bay Area SV Riders Club it was there he learned the importance of having the right people around you to ride with.
This was a group that was focused on motorcycle safety, doing one’s own motorcycle maintenance and essentially having good people to go ride with.
Whilst also in California Túrin got to experience the track (albeit as a spectator) at the world renowned Infineon Raceway. At that time he never felt as though he could make the leap from the street to the track, oh how wrong he was.
Fast forward 15 years or so and countless street riding adventures to 2019 and Túrin purchased his first ‘supersport’ a new Kawasaki ZX6R with the intention on improving his riding skills by going down from a 1000cc to a 600cc. At that time there was an idea of maybe doing a track day or two.
By the end of 2020 Túrin was all signed up for his first trackday with OPRT at Portland International Raceway. Which was cancelled due to wildfires!
June 2021 and OPRT was back at PIR and finally Túrin was out on track. Lo and behold he was hooked, the rest of the year was spent going to The Ridge a few times and PIR a couple more, it was there at PIR; Túrin met the other founding members of CCK, Joe and Terry. Joe, a previous racer, stunt rider & PIR regular and Terry on his first trackday. Sometimes having the best tape for your lights is all it takes.
Shortly after Terry and Túrin whilst barely knowing each other but with a shared love of motorcycles decided to embark on an eleven hour journey to ride Thunderhill East. It was there they connected on more than just bikes and a great trip was enjoyed despite the thickest fog Thunderhill had ever seen.
2022 season started at Oregon Raceway Park and was spent mostly at The Ridge and PIR. It was at PIR that Túrin rode on track with Sean for the first time and with Kevin also. Túrin was sure that it was just trackdays for him at that time but Sean had plans to race in 2023
2023 was another great year of trackdays with friends, it was also the year that Cain made it out for his first trackday at PIR. Sean raced his first year and unfortunately suffered an injury whilst racing that forced him to sit the rest of the race season out (read about it here).
It was at the end of the season whilst sitting in a garage at The Ridge watching the rain and after spending three years of Túrin saying that he wasn’t going to race that plans were hatched to start racing.
Túrin will be racing in 2025 with CCK and will be helping more people get out to the track and take up racing. He will always answer motorcycle racing related questions via email.
